Rahu Kalam and Abhijit — special hours of the day
Rahu Kalam is an inauspicious part of the day. It is best not to start anything important then — deals, trips, signings, new undertakings. What is already underway can safely continue; it is the start that should be moved.
Abhijit Muhurta is the most auspicious time of the day, the “victorious” muhurta around noon. Good for important undertakings, decisions and anything you want to give a strong start.
How it is calculated
We take the daylight time — from sunrise to sunset for your city — and divide it:
- into 8 equal parts for Rahu Kalam. Which part is “rahu” depends on the weekday: Monday — 2nd, Tuesday — 7th, Wednesday — 5th, Thursday — 6th, Friday — 4th, Saturday — 3rd, Sunday — 8th.
- into 15 equal parts (muhurtas) for Abhijit; the auspicious one is the middle, 8th — it falls on the solar noon.
That is why Rahu Kalam and Abhijit differ every day — they depend on the date and place.
